I bombed my Interview Assessment

Hello, TechTual Fam!

As another week concludes, I wanted to take a moment to share some insight on the job search game, clients, and how to network. Whether you’re actively seeking job opportunities or looking to enhance your professional connections, these stories might resonate and provide some valuable lessons for your own journey.

A Win Story with TechTual Consulting

Let’s kick things off with an exciting achievement from one of my clients. Picture this: a salary leap from $50,000 to $120,000. Incredible, right? This transformation came about with some straightforward adjustments. I helped revamp my client’s resume and LinkedIn profile, and the outcomes were nothing short of extraordinary. The Importance of Maintaining Connections with Recruiters

Let’s switch gears and talk about recruiters. Building and maintaining relationships with quality recruiters can be a game-changer in your career. Let me illustrate this with a personal anecdote. About four years ago, I had an interview with Yahoo, connecting with a phenomenal recruiter. We stayed in touch over the years, and this connection paid off. At the start of this year, she reached out, asking if I was still in the job market. This reinforces the notion that job searching and networking are genuine skills. Great recruiters are rare, so cherish those connections. Regularly check in with them, offer assistance, and you might find doors opening when you least expect it.

Navigating Job Interview Assessments

Now, let’s delve into the world of job interview assessments. My experiences have been a blend of hits and misses. Last year, I almost aced an assessment, but i was nitpicked over something miniscule and they passed on me. Fast forward to this week,a recruiter approached me for a Security Lead role and she informed before I move on I will have to do an assessment. When I went to complete the assessment, it was something i wasnt expecting. It was a python scritping part they did not allow you to use Google or AI. The next part of the assessment was an AWS Security Incident response scenario. The killer part is while you complete the assessment, you are also being recorded on camera. I completely bombed the python assessment but, I excelled in the AWS scenario. To my surprise, even after being candid with the recruiter about my Python performance but, they were impressed with my AWS responses. Now I have an interviewed scheduled next week! The takeaway here is to always give your best effort. Even if one aspect doesn’t go as planned, another might shine through and catch attention.

Conclusion

I hope these experiences offer some food for thought as you navigate your own career path. If you know someone who could benefit from these insights, please share this post with them. For more content and support, feel free to follow me on my social platforms.

Until next time, stay TechTual and never underestimate the power of connection and perseverance.
